Tree Roots in the Sewer Line

How you know this is it

• Repeated main line backups, often worse in spring and after heavy rain
• Slow drainage across the whole house that gradually gets worse
• Gurgling from the lowest drains
• Large trees within twenty or thirty feet of where the sewer line runs

What usually causes it

• Clay or cast iron pipe with joints every few feet, standard in older construction
• A joint that has shifted with ground movement and started to seep
• An existing crack that a root has followed to the water inside
• Shallow lines under mature trees, common on older lots

What we do about it

• Clear the roots so the line drains again
• Camera the line to find exactly where they are entering and how bad the pipe is there
• Show you the footage so the decision is yours and not a matter of trust
• Repair the failed joint or section where that is enough
• Replace the run when the pipe is genuinely finished
